FAQ
How does this word checker count words?
It counts word-like tokens (letters/numbers), keeping common apostrophes inside words (e.g., “don’t”). You can choose whether hyphenated terms count as one word.
Does it count characters with or without spaces?
Both. The results show total characters and characters with all whitespace removed.
Can I check a word limit?
Yes—set a word limit and the tool shows whether you’re OK or over, including how many words are left/over.
How is reading time calculated?
It uses a simple estimate of 200 words per minute and rounds up to whole minutes (or shows “< 1 min”).
What are “Top repeats” and how are they chosen?
It lists the most repeated words (count > 1). You can optionally ignore common stopwords to surface more meaningful repeats.
Is my text uploaded to a server?
No. The analysis runs locally in your browser, and the script does not send network requests.
Why might my word count differ from a word processor?
Different tools use different token rules (hyphens, numbers, punctuation, and non‑Latin scripts). Try toggling the options to match your target platform.
